Have had a longer look at the Future Army document. In general it looks like a PR exercise to cover up an ever shrinking force. More specifically I find it odd that:
1. No 2 Divs or Bdes (or BCT) share the same ORBAT. eg a. only 2 Bdes (7x and 16x) have their own Arty Regt. b. of the 2 Armd Bdes 1 has 2 Mech Inf Bns while the other has 3. c. Only the 2 Armd BCT and 16 AA BCT have their own Med Regt. d. No Close Sp Engr Regts in the Armd BCT.
This will make sustaining a force (by replacing 1 deployed Bee with another) impossible without adding units from other Bdes. Likewise sharing the readiness cycle will doubtless see an Armd Bde at HR just when one needs a lighter force (or other variants on the theme).
2. The British Army developed commando units in WW2. The resurrection of these would have been (in my view) better than the apeing of 'Ranger' from the US Army. It might also have led to a less controversial cap badge (commando dagger in a shield) than the Selous Scouts' inspired design.
3. It's great for brigadiers and major generals. More Divs and loads of Bdes compared with now, but fewer teeth!
