Studi was accurately with his description. When you start as F/O on the mainline, you are not restricted to bid to Condor. Progression to wide-body at Condor has always been faster than mainline. When a position open, you can bid to Condor. You are not restricted unless you are locked to your type.
My own progression went from 737 to 744. I could be Cpt on short haul A320 fleet but I prefer to stay on long haul for personal reasons. We all have different reasons to stay on a certain fleet. Some senior Cpts prefer to stay short haul and don't have to fight the jet lag. Some hate passengers and prefer to fly cargo. We all hate deadheading.
I don't know of anyone started on the A300. We need 5 to 7 years on short haul doing 2 to 4 sectors a day in challenging weather to perfect our skills. (4 is very rare). On the 744, I may do one take-off and landing in 20 days.
