There still seems to be some “dark arts” associated with hoists.

I was 'expert' opinion at a 555 meeting at Westlands to consider the winch fit for the Navy Lynx. We had three on offer - Lucas, Breeze and. AEG/telefunken. The AEG stood out by a mile and the Lucas was quite unsuitable. The Breeze was usable but a 'dog's dinner' installation. I made the obvious recommendation but the decision went to the Breeze. From memory, the costs were in the order of (say) 3k for the Lucas, 6k for the Breeze and 10k for the AEG. Not an unreasonable decision one might think. However, the operational requirement was for an occasional use fit which, ultimately, meant purchasing a greater number of the 'cheaper' option. How unusual !
