Virgin are taking on a few A320s, offloads those near new 737s back to the east.
That may be the case now, but BHP and Rio are both talking a big game about reducing their Scope 3 emissions, which covers the air transport to/from site. It's likely that will mean stepping from F100s to A320ceos and maybe E1 series E190s in the first instance, but it's conceivable that if QF bought some shiny new A220s/E2s for the east coast that in time they would find their way West in a few years.
