ATPL theory may improve your CV for such offcie positions, like Flight Oeprations Planning and Contol (OCC), Flight Safety (Data processing and monitoring), Quality Assurance and some others.
Anyway - degree is still required for these positions, but additional knowledge of ATPL will give you extra points.
