The US airlines are certainly hiring but whether they're
sponsoring foreign pilots is doubtful. Even the US regionals that have, in the past, taken Aussies on E3 visas haven't announced they're taking any new Aussie candidates. In fact, Commutair for example says on their website they're not taking E3s at the moment:

So far, my impression is that it's just the standard sky-is-falling talk where pilot supply is concerned. Hiring lots of pilots doesn't necessarily mean they're short of pilots. The whole thing is worth watching though.
