About the only point you may've hit on the head, albeit inadvertently, is the political nature of some of the so-called "lockdowns" but you'd like to think even the dimmest of observers could see that for what it is. I think the general consensus is that Aiustralia is a laughing stock from within its borders. Forget about looking for comentary from overseas.
