In 1989 the crews were issued a 35mm SLR. Photogs would use a hand-held F95, or a Hasselblad for better quality/colour work. I reckon life must have been pretty cheap on those old squid jiggers. During my tour our assistance to the civil authorities involved photographing the washed up bodies of several crewmen who had clearly been killed in industrial accidents. I suppose they just chucked them over the side and phoned home for a replacement.
