RAF Canada 1940’s

When my dad passed away I found a Canadian passport, issued in 1942, amongst his possessions.

He was stationed in Western Canada during the war and I know he traveled to USA where he had relatives.

The passport has a US visa and stamps for entry.

Now my question is this. Would it be normal for a British serviceman to be issued with a Canadian passport when stationed there?

I’m presuming that service personnel didn’t require a passport to enter Canada during the war .

Its been a bit of a mystery for me.
