Australian man was arrested for deprivation of liberty and rape. Peter Anthony Hickey, 55 from Sydney, Australia was arrested on Thursday 12 May at Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby, NCD after he was tipped off.

Peter Hickey, the CEO of Heli Niugini and Director of NKW/Pacific Cargo Limited unlawfully detained and raped a woman in Lae on two occasions in July and August 2020. He has evaded police arrest in Lae and had been on the run. When CID officers in Lae requested him to voluntarily turn himself in at Lae Police station for interview he did not cooperate with Police and escaped to Madang. So Lae police CID obtained a warrant of arrest from Lae district court for his arrest. When police went to Madang to arrest him he took out an illegal stay order at Madang district court which was ruled by Lae district court as illegal and abuse of legal process citing that any stay orders for criminal cases must be obtained from the same district court that issued the warrant of arrest. Where as the accused had acted illegally and out of juridiction. Lae district court issued a second warrant of arrest for the arrest of Peter Hickey.

Peter Hickey again through his lawyer, Young Wadau Lawyers took out an ex parte order to restrain police from arresting him and for judicial review of the warrant of arrest in January 2021 at Madang National Court. But the accused and his lawyer did not do anything. So the matter returned to Lae district court on April 23 2021. The court again ruled that the criminal investigation process has been abused and that the accused prematurely acted to go to National court and had mixed up a criminal case with civil.

Lae district court issued a fresh and third warrant of arrest of the accused, Peter Hickey. However, the Lae CID went to Madang to execute the order, the accused escaped to Port Moresby and was hiding at Stanley hotel and eventually he was tipped off and apprehended by NCD CID Officers on Thursday 12 May.
Peter Hickey was detained at Boroko Police Station and transferred to Lae on Friday 13 May to be formerly arrested, charged and detained and appear before Lae district comital court for mention and answer for the crime he committed.
