The Dart has an incline of 5% which is the maximum the cables can pull the trains up the hill. The length is 1.4 miles or 2.2 km yet the route contains a viaduct, bridge, cuttings and a tunnel. Nothing of the route is on flat open ground which will have bumped up the price. Add to that a submerged station at one end and first floor platforms at the other the Dart was never going to be a cheap build.
