This guy had an engine failure after takeoff and tried to make it back to the airfield. He almost made it but unfortunately killed himself, his passenger and a child in the car he hit before hitting the perimeter fence. Doubtless if he had landed on a road or a lake instead the thread starter of this topic would have believed he could have made the airfield.
This accident is pretty horrible but imagine an Airbus doing the same thing....
