This story left me thinking . . .

Story HERE

As a helicopter pilots we frequently fly over areas or in conditions where if we had to land, even if we were unhurt we would have a hard time surviving, and being found.

If you ever fly in this part of the world, take into account that we don't have much formal SAR personel and equipment, when an aircraft is lost, its usually whatever craft/pilot is on the ramp that goes out to search for it and keeps on searching for days. So take your precautions. ATC doesn't have radar contact in most places, radio facilties are scarce and WX mountain terrain can force you to make considerable deviations from your planned route. And towns can be really scarce.
