There was also a little circular plastic gadget sold by Airtours for setting up a pilot interpreted (rather than controller interpreted) instrument approach using a series of QDMs (every 2 minutes or less), which was part of the IMC Rating syllabus. I forget its Q Code; QGH was the controller interpreted version IIRC.
old,not bold - you are correct about the QGH, which was a military procedure. The civil approach, pilot interpreted, was a VDF approach. You could request a QDM as often as you liked, which you probably did while trying to adjust your outbound track!
