An FTD1 with touchscreens and no flight controls can be qualified as such and can be used and credited as per the relevant OSD. Obviously no handling exercises but for systems etc a good training tool.

Ah, this is another fixed wing Vs helicopters discrepancy - my apologies, I thought rules were the same. You cannot get any credit at the moment for anything less than an FTD2 in the helicopter world towards type ratings. See AMC2 FCL.725(a).
