The Atlantic discusses the American perspective on when the pandemic can be declared over. There are a few similarities but of course there is a wide gulf between them and how the states and people here view risks and responsibilities.
The article mentions that once covid deaths approximate the annual flu toll might be an appropriate milestone to re-open society and borders. That seems to be a measured view, given that Covid-19 will be with us forever.
