I feel I need to offer an alternative to your statement regarding stalling with some facts.
As you say the prototype Hermes crashed due to elevator overbalance which was obviously a design issue.
Eight Hastings crashed in circumstances that led to a stall or loss of control. Accident investigation back then was somewhat different to what it is now and I suspect blaming control locks and trim issues could in reality have been design/functionality failures rather than mishandling.
TG611 Trim set incorrectly.
WD478 Possible trim issue
TG602 Elevators detached, structural issues.
WJ335 Control locks still in.
WD484 Control locks still in.
WD492 Engine failure then stalled.
WD498 Pilot seat slid back on t/o then stalled.
TG577 Elevators detached, fatigue failure.
