I wonder if they would operate extra flights at a loss rather than passing over to Rex. Schedule then Cancel comes to mind.
You can't just "hold on" to an AOC. Once you cease operations, there is in effect nothing for CASA to Audit, so any permissions granted will expire as they fall due.
