Recently seen a nice photo of one of the Vendee Globe yachts (Apivia) taken somewhere near the Falklands, apparently by an RAF aircraft. Just wondered what A/C were stationed there and what camera equipment they might be using. Photo looks too good to be taken by someone waving a smartphone out of the window?
Their maritime patrol role requires 1312 Flight aircraft to have hand-held cameras aboard. Whilst normally used by the flight crew, for specific missions they often have one of the Station photographers aboard. During my tour I flew so often on these tasks as supernumerary crew that I received flying pay.
