I learned to fly there many years ago. The saving on landing fees is useful, but they now have a fuel surcharge, I believe, which will need to be factored in. The issues which led me to seek alternatives elsewhere were the annoying habit of giving a booked aircraft to the commercial students without warning which meant a number of wasted journeys from London, and the lack of hard taxiways in the winter months which could lead to long waits at the hold of up to 20 minutes.

For the PPL you could also look at North Weald Flight Training. They have a sizeable fleet and North Weald has an operational environment of everything from ex-military fast jets and warbirds to biz jets, gyrocopters, the air ambulance andf police helicopters so can be quite a challenge at times but has hard taxiways which is a bonus in the winter. NWFT don't do commercial stuff, however.
