I do, because even with an instant impulse and normal acceleration only at the 0 degree point, with
no normal acceleration afterward, in a simple system the max displacement will take 90 degrees regardless of the mass. You're championing normal acceleration as the cause of the phase lag. But since the phase lag happens with no normal acceleration, the normal acceleration cannot be its cause.
