This is desperately sad news for LGW. It was always a pleasure seeing the CX A350 parked up at the South Terminal, and flying from Gatwick was always a huge bonus for me as apposed to LHR and the 77W, as I’m sure it was for many others. My thoughts go out to the Cathay ground staff at LGW, hopefully they will find jobs in the CX operation at LHR. I seriously do hope they will come back- having spoken with their office and ground staff, Gatwick has grown to become a very good route for them, and a very popular alternative to LHR, so hopefully they won’t be gone for another 20+ years like last time. The person I spoke with in the London office yesterday seemed adamant that CX hasn’t withdrawn from LGW permanently, rather the route has been subject to a “temporary closure”, so hopefully they haven’t given up on Gatwick totally.
