This thread has provided some valuable insight into YouTube. I was unaware of how content providers were paid. If you get 100,000 views you earn a couple of hundred dollars. So with a few exceptions most of the channels make a few thousand a year. I found not much correlation between those I found interesting and how much they earn, which perhaps says more about me. I gather for example there are video game influencers making millions. While the extremely professional guy making stunning films bush flying in Papua New Guinea seems to be reliant on donations to buy equipment. Obviously a certain kind of person makes these kind of films. That does not automatically discount their value. In fact some of them are refreshingly honest about getting things wrong. The beauty is you can surf to another channel if you don’t like what you see. A list of people’s favorite flying channels would be interesting.
