The US Army requirement is for 50 000 vehicles....It wont replace the Hummer on a one for one basis though. The big difference is that the Hummer failed to cope with the demands of upgraded armour requirements whilst the JLTV has a high baseline protection baked in and a number of scalable kits to upgrade protection and firepower in line with the threat. Yes it’s heavy, but it can be slung by a -53K or -47F and carried internally by C130 and up. I’ve had a go - it’s an awesome piece of kit with the trickest suspension I’ve seen. Oh, also has killer Air Con, USB charging points and ‘mega gulp’ cup holders........
