I think the idea is to offload much work from the pilot, such that even HOTAS can be simplified. Targeting where you look - so yes, through the aircraft, voice interaction with a virtual co-pilot, ai doing much of the sorting and routing - maybe even assisted piloting - transforming what autopilot really is and pointing the nose for you if it thinks it's figured out a better intercept. A lot of pilot stuff is going to come down to okaying weapons launch.

This won't just happen here, it will also happen in civil commercial aircraft, where there will be a push towards assisted single pilot with more networked airliners.
