There are many Western companies with unions that work with contracts stating "last in, first out". When applied, there is no consideration of your or your family's state of health, your age etc., it is just applied. Nobody complains because you have accepted and signed the contract.
Not many western companies now use pure LIFO as it can easily be classed as age discriminatory. They now tend to use other factors along with LIFO such as sickness, training, amount of cover etc.
