I wonder if nighttime was a factor in the incident ? Misjudging a landing a night is more likely than during the day, especially if the pilot is inexperienced.
The LED runway lights at Bankstown are effing bright too! A little while since I’ve been there, but last time I was there I was surprised how bright they were. I found them almost a little dazzling on short final and in the flare.
