I too tried for a long time to get cover but in the end gave up. I did limit the risk slightly by operating as a limited company and getting my main client to name me on their policy.
simple fact is that any pilot ... employed or self employed who is deemed grossly negligent could always be sued personally ... even by his employers or, more likely, their underwriters......
If you have significant assets...you could always transfer them to your wife and thus shield yourself.... but you’d need to be sure of the strength of your marriage!!
