There are many pilots who posess other skills but lack what it takes to manually handle of an aircraft; Decades ago when there still was a selection, pilots very gradually after years of experience slowly made their way to the airlines, and automation was a comfort that was discovered late in the process, Such pilots would never had made it then. Today such deficiencies can go unnoticed until they will be deprived of autopilot, autothrottle and FD...

Now the question is what do you do with such pilots if they cannot meet minimum standards of manual handling in the sim, am not talking about emergencies, but during standard operations where without automation some pilots have great difficulties to maintain mental and tactile connection with the flight, and lack the ingrained skills, knowledge and techniques necessary in the process, have poor understanding of the complex automation which can play dirty tricks, What about their careers ?
