Why sad? They are effectively in retirement, can access their Super and have the added benefit of accruing leave without having to expend any effort whilst stood-down. There's not that many favourable (if you can call it that) outcomes for anyone in being stood-down but this may be one. They are not displacing anyone from a position whilst the fleets they operate are parked at Victorville or Mojave and there is no training happening or likely to happen for some time on other fleets. Seems like a lucky position to be in if all else is stalled.

There appear to be 5 or 6 longhaul pilots over 65 that are still on the most recent seniority list - not sure if they've subsequently retired or not - but all except 1*, have turned 65 since being stood-down. About another 8 or 10 turn 65 in the next 6 months.

* He may have been on longterm sick leave when this all started - vague recollection but not certain.

Out of curiosity dragon, did these pilots have 737 training positions allocated to them that have been postponed? Also, does the age 65 rule apply to SO’s?
No, I'm fairly certain they didn't have 737 training slots and yes it does apply to S/O's.
