Oil and gas is definately big business for MME-AMS but in my experience people seem to going to/from the Gulf countries, North Africa & Norway. KLM do not serve Atyrau but there is a three times a week codeshare with
Air Astana direct from AMS (or you can fly Aeroflot via Moscow).
