The chances of either the B787 or the B737MAX programmes reaching their 'accounting block' production targets in the foreseeable future - or indeed ever - are becoming more and more remote each Quarter. However, continued use of
Program Accounting allows Boeing to defer recognising and crystallising billions and billions of dollars in losses until the indefinite future, or until the company wants to put Boeing Commercial Aircraft into Chapter 11. My own view is that's at least a 50/50 proposition.
