If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
The DC brushless motors I have dealt with were small low power things.
I suspect that a Brushless Starter Motor may be a tall order as it has to be very high torque.
What is the problem with brushes anyway? The maintenance requirements are quite low.
The only failure I ever had with an APU starter was when the mounting flange failed and the motor fell off.
