If I own an aircraft and use it to fly regularly to Sydney, and decide to advertise and sell the spare seats to the public I would say yes, it requires an AOC despite CAR 2(7)(d)(i). Commercial
operations and commercial
purposes can refer to different things.

This is where the "commercial" word is awkward and probably should have been removed as you pointed out. If someone wants to try it we can find out. The closest we are likely to get is Angel Flight.
