Exactly - it cuts both ways but there are other human, behavioural and additional contributions that can be measured (and some technical) that don’t conflict with safety. If you can’t demonstrate any you get a standard salary for grade. I”m not saying I agree but just putting another point of view. In the States to work on the ground everything is bid on seniority (look at the age profile for Florida stations). They get the job based on years of service (provided they meet a minimum) not because they are best at the job or have amazing customer service - is this how we would recruit for our own business ?
