Well said kockayne. Why would a government owned airline want to take on commercial risks? The investment by SOG is to ensure lifeline routes at least cost to the islands, and ensure the island has connectivity to mainland commercial and financial centres not to take commercial risk and become bigger and bigger like previous CI airlines ,eg FlyBe

PS The fleet mix is dictated by the following factors-
E195 to give Max seat capacity on GWK route
Dorniers - largest ac that can operate from ACI
ATR 72 seats most compatible with
demand from U.K. regional airports.
