Being brought up in a village adjacent to
brokenlink's home there was a reluctance for any celebrations. The local regiment "The Cambridgeshires" had been captured in Singapore and little was known of their fate. In fact many had perished up the jungle on the railway whilst most of the survivors were still held prisoner in Thailand.
On a personal note my Uncle was still fighting in Gen. Slim's "forgotten army".
