This type of question comes up about 3 times a week in this Forum. No, it is not a compass calibration, it is simply a survey, either using cameras, or more sophisticated sensors such as hyperspectral scanners, microwave scanners or Lidar. We have flown hundreds or even thousands of these surveys over Australia, at altitudes between 100m above terrain to 14km above terrain. Here is an example of the flighttrack we flew on Easter Monday over the burnt landscape of Kangaroo Island using Lidar, RGB-imagery and hyperspectral sensors.
