Whether or not they make it through to the other side remains to be seen. There is certainly lots of encouragement from management for the foreigners to upgrade. Check and training captains are also fond of it and encourage many to go for it. You will work hard. They cannot willfully keep the hours down to avoid overtime for cost saving. Chronic crew shortages. As with anywhere, over 90% are great guys. Only a handful are challenging. Training is long and excruciating. If a commuter you will not go home for 5/6 months until it’s completed. Be prepared to memorize things that have no useful purpose to satisfy the JCAB overlords. Attitude is very important. Show eagerness to learn their culture and you will be welcomed. Happy to answer any PM’s. Of course this is all prior to the industry as a whole going down the toilet. That said Japan domestic is still ok. FOs on 40ish hours and skippers near 60. For now.

Thanks for the information about Jetstar Japan. Helps a lot. If you don’t mind me asking, I have few questions that I would like to ask :
1) Travel benefits. Is ZED fare provided or just within Jetstar / Qantas / JAL ?
2) Most of the contracts that I read, are mostly for 3 years. And if I’m not mistaken, you don’t have to pay tax for your first year because you’re still not considered residence. Is that true ?
3) How much is the take home salary during training and also when clear on line, after tax.
I’m currently looking for options, and Jetstar is one of them. I love Japan, I visit Japan almost every year and if given the chance, I would definitely move there.
