Ladies and Gentlemen, Sqn Ldr Ron Salt, the last member of aircrew who put the spire atop Coventry Cathedral in 1962, has passed away this week.
He was an essentially modest man and attended the 50th anniversary in 2012.
The actions in completing the task in the gaze of publicity, taken with the rescue of the crew from a trawler aground off Land's End, probably did more for RAF
PR than anything else at that time and both certainly were a great boost for the RAF helicopter world.
