Better perhaps to just let infections happen as quickly as possible. NZ currently has 6 confirmed cases. 6. And we shut down the country. China is already opening stores and factories again.
Possibly the most silly post on a less than sensible thread. You are talking about killing possibly 3% of the population, and potentially a majority of the immunosuppressed, together with 0.7% of younger key workers such as CEOs, trainers, innovators etc which may in turn destroy whole companies and masses of jobs. This is not the same as flu.

NZ is trying to isolate itself from the rest of the world and if done early enough this might have worked. I hope it does even now but politicians have not done well to date and I fear it is too late. NZ will then need to introduce social distancing to reduce spread so their health system can sort of cope. Correction, they should have already done it. There will still be deaths but the expectation is that the attack rate (the number of infected people) will at the end be reduced to say 30% and this in turn will avoid a second or third wave as we saw in 1919.

All this is based on incomplete understanding of the virus; it is still early days in China and Singapore, we have no knowledge of mutation beyond the already identified S strain, and vaccines are not a given.

Time will tell, but the world economy will tank and unnecessary lives lost. Not a laughing matter.
