I found this a very good book to get started. However, it contains nowhere near all the theory you need to know for the EASA PPL, and I've got the feeling the same goes for the FAA PPL. So you might need some more in-depth material (like the FAA material custardpsc mentioned earlier) later on, before you sit the FAA written.

Edited: I noticed you're in Meath (Ireland?). Why an FAA PPL and not an EASA PPL? Just curious.
