As giggity notes, you want to 'dry' motor the engine to get any unburnt fuel out of it. Doing an engine start with fuel already puddled in the engine is a good way to get a hot start and/or a tailpipe fire.
That being said, as dixi notes the exact procedures depend on the engine and aircraft type. Many FADEC autostart systems will do all that automatically without crew intervention.
