The way in which the controls are moved is not relevant, IMO.

As Tinny says, "in trim" means there is no power required to hold the controls in neutral position.

Change anything - speed, flap setting, dangle the dunlops and your trim will change, so a change of trim tab position - it's still not "neutral" but you're in trim again.
