Well, it is ONE of two official languages in the country so what's the problem with that? If you want to go to the US, your English should be of a certain standard too, it will be assessed in the visa interview at the embassy at least once. Also you want to work and live in that country so in my own interest I would want it to be as good as possible for job interviews, dealing with authorities, talking to landlords, buying a car..... LIVING there.
