Kamina appears to be a fairly large city, and I would expect that the airport experiences several aircraft operations per day, but apparently there is no perimeter fence for the airport. Is this the usual situation one finds at "outback" African airports?

From my experiences working in Africa, not only DRC, there are no shortage of similar airports/traffic patterns - that there are not many more such accidents is testament to the skill of the aircrews involved.
