Everyone thought Virgin Little Red was simply a clever wheeze to get more long-haul slots and it didn't turn out that way. The EC ruling on the slots was very clear they could only be used for short-haul flights.
my understanding is that the slots can be used for short haul only. According to some rumours, these slots would go to Air France/KLM who then let Virgin/Delta use their slots, a double swap which effectively allows Delta/Virgin to use the slots to gain long haul slots. Not sure if it’s actually possible though.
