Not that simple. To get to Southend, you cant just fly straight there. You'd need to fly out over the Isle of Wight and the channel then up the coast. It's quite a half-cocked routing to get across like that. It's an extra 120+ NM and probably another 15 minutes in the air.
You can end up in a hold still.. but less likely. All London traffic subject to additional controls at busy periods, not exclusively Heathrow.
