I was watching Flightradar24 on NY day, after the last round of fires down south. Was interesting to watch multiple Rex Saab’s, an RFDS King Air, and a GAM Shrike all go missed at Merimbula and all subsequently divert within the space of 15-20 mins, and in the midst of this, an unnamed Victorian operator get their Chieftain in with a vis reported as 1500m. And unsuspecting people pay these cowboys to move their people around.
Checking the camera onsite would have given you an idea of how quickly the visibility was changing.
