A couple of mentions of smoke.

What does smoke have to do with it? Did they conduct an Instrument Approach? Did they have the required visibility for landing?
I was in the queue waiting for an approach when the Citation did his approach. The ATIS at the time was quoting about 3000m viz (I think). I asked the controller if aircraft were getting in, he said yes. Approach were very busy at the time. The old story, you could see vertically down through the smoke but forward viz was kaput.

I was headed out to Mallacoota at the time, had to head back to Moorabbin, the smoke build up happened very quickly, as soon as the wind swung around to a northerly, game over.
